Club
de l'Epagneul Breton
des Etats-Unis d'Amerique
French Brittany Gun Dog Association of America, Inc.
The Epagneul Breton (French brittany) is registered
by the United Kennel Club, Inc., the second
oldest and second largest all-breed dog registry in the United States. The UKC was founded
in 1898 and has been in continual operation for over 100 years. The UKC has established a
separate breed classification for the Epagneul Breton and maintains a separate and
distinct registry for our breed, a distinction not made by any other registry in
this country.
Dependent upon the breeder, some epagneul bretons may
carry a dual registration and be registered with both the UKC and the AKC. But the key thing to look for when purchasing an Epagneul Breton, or choosing a stud or bitch to breed with, is whether it has been registered with the UKC as an Epagneul Breton! The UKC is the only registry in this country that distinguishes between the Epagneul Breton (french brittany) and the American brittany, or brittany spaniel, and has a separate breed classification as well as separate registry for the epagneul breton. Therefore, the UKC registration and pedigree is the hallmark of a true Epagneul Breton! The American Kennel Club does not distinguish between the breeds and registers all french or american brittanys simply as brittanys. Therefore if the dog has only an AKC registration, odds are it is an American brittany or might have American brittany lineage which disqualifies it from registration as an epagneul breton with the UKC.
Registration of Pups
If you were given a UKC registration form when you picked
up your pup, registration is simple and quick. Your breeder will have entered his
information and signature on the form. You simply finish filling in the form, sign
it and send it in to the UKC with
the registration fee. You will receive a very attractive pedigree and registration certificate.
(If you purchase a pup from a breeder listed by
this association and the breeder does not provide a UKC registration form for the pup, please notify us.)
Litter Registration
Litters born to registered French brittany
parents should be registered
by the breeder with the UKC.
The breeder will be supplied with an individual registration form for each pup in the litter to give to the new
owner when they purchase the puppy. See
link below.
What to do if you did not receive a UKC
registration form when you purchased your dog?
You may still be able to register it as an Epagneul Breton (French brittany)!
